Well, since I've hit this site just afew times, I'd figured now I'd introduce myself

My name is Michael, and I'm Paso Robles, CA (Central Coast). I'm a PCF (Paid Call Firefigher) for SLO/CDF, and work part time at a golf course.

The only place I've been to hunt waterfowl is Mendota. This is my second season hunting. My buddy got me hooked on hunting it last year. It was either I'd hate it or love it. So now I have all the right equiptment, and a smaller wallet...

I'd say my favorite bird to hunt is the mallard. My favorite shotgun, and only one I own, is my 870 express. My dream waterfowl hunt....umm get a limit....lol. I have no clue. Canada?

Hi All,

I am from Northern California and I hunt waterfowl at the Sacramento Valley refuges, mostly Delevan if I don't get a resservation for another place.

I learned how to hunt fowl mostly from field time with friends and my father. Been hunting ducks since I got my license when I was 12.

My favorite duck to hunt is Mallards. But I am pretty happy when I shoot a nice bull Sprig. I love to eat the teals.

I hunt with a Beretta 390 with advantage camo and a 28" barrel.

My dream hunt would be shooting Mallards in flooded timber in the South.

Hunting for 45 years, cetral and mississippi flyways! Hunting over decoys and getting birds within 25 yards. Mallards and Canada geese are the games of choice. Used the same gun a Remington 1100 for 36 years and now use a Baikal autoloader. Use Foiles or Trutone Calls. Lots of decoys every day and the objective is to see the fooled look in their eyes.

Greetings all my name is Erik Nelson, born in Berkeley, CA where I began shooting ducks on the bay in 1967 with my dad. They kicked us off our spot in the mud-flats in the late 70's and I began shooting the public refuges in Suisun, grasslands and the Sac Valley.

I moved to So. Cal in 1985 and was pleased to find 1) women who actually looked like females (a thankful change from Berkeley) 2) water temps for surfing over 60 degrees 3) reasonably fair duck hunting at Wister, San Jacinto, and Kern.

This past year I alternated between hunting Wed at a club and Sat. at public areas. It was a pretty good year. I am also the new So Cal. person on the CWA Unattached Hunter Committee. I have met several of the So Cal guys on this forum already. I am looking for input on what should be done with public hunting in So Cal. More on this later, the wife is after me to log off...

I grew up in San Diego. I learned early on hunting Brandt in San Diego harbor, and geese/ducks at Wister. I have been hunting for about thirty+ years now and wow! have things changed. Most people don't even remember hunting Brandt around San Diego. We used to hunt Honkers at Henshaw, Pheasant, Quail and Doves in Imperial Valley, every other kind of critter from rabbitts to coyotes in Santee.

Most of my waterfowling has been done at Wister. Goose hunting has really got me nowadays, and am able to hunt a little more again now that my daughters are getting a little bigger. Most of the trips down to Wister now ends up with Snows in the cooler, but I sure miss the Honkers.

The Pintails too are almost non-existant compared to just ten years ago. I was totally demoralized the first time I went in November and we never even saw a Pintail in two days hunting! They used to be worse than mosquitos down there . . . the skies would be darkened with Pintail. Where did they go???

I use a Mossberg New Haven 12-ga with Accu-Choke and usually shoot 3" #2's at ducks and 3" BB at the geese.

I'm really stoked that I found this forum and everthing I've seen so far has been very positive, no America haters.

I live and duck hunt in SW Arkansas, just north of Texarkana. The last two or three seasons have been pretty sad huntin for me and my duck hunting time is being pushed aside for my new passion, which is running rabbits with my new beagles. I never thought I would chase rabbits instead of going duck hunting, but it is true. But, if we ever get the magic combination again, which is cold weather to the north, water, and acorns.......I will be back in the timber kickin water and trying not to over call with my single reed RNT coca bola. Nothin better when it is really good, but it hasn't been really good for a while.

My name is Matt, I live in SF and have been hunting ducks since I could walk. My Dad taught me how to hunt and I have been hunting mainly refuges and the occasional club. Most of my hunting has been in the Los Banos area and in the Bay, last year I hunted flooded rice. I shoot an 870 and sometimes feel good about my skills. I am brand new to this web site. My favorite duck is a Bull Sprig. And some day I want to hunt in Argentina for Ducks and Geese!

Alberta, Canada.

My father taught me how to shoot, but it was my grandfather that got me going on waterfowl hunting.

My favorite is Canada Goose.

My favorite shotgun is my CIL Model 402 Goose Gun.

I don't have a dream hunt. I'm happy doing what I do now.

I am originally from Nebraska but I have been living in California for the last three years. I hunted waterfowl all the time back in Nebraska. I live in Lemoore, CA in the sequoia valley. I am new to this area so I need to find out where the best place to hunt waterfowl is and I recently bought a labrador retriever and I need to know where there is a good place to train him myself that is close around the area I live. I was wondering if anybody could help me out with this information I have listed above. Thanks

My name is Dan and I was born and raised four blocks from the Yellowstone River in Livingston Montana, which is 56 miles north of Yellowstone Park. I was the fortunate son of a father who took me fishing or hunting almost every weekend of the year well before I could even walk. We hunted upland birds across Montana, So. Dakota and No. Dakota., ducks and geese along the Yellowstone as well as Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia; and big game throughout Montana. I got out of the service in 1977 and on my way to a job I had waiting at the Cape in Florida, I stopped in to visit my parents who were wintering in Yuma Arizona and just never made it any further. I have been hunting Cibola since 1978 as well as the Colorado and Gila Rivers and lakes, Wister for the last four years, Katy Texas area for the last 7 years, a trip to Alaska for sea ducks, and as many turkey trips as the wallet will allow.

My favorite bird is any sea duck or diver that is working the decoys in front of the layout boat.

My favorite gun would have to be the Model 12 Heavy Duck that my dad gave me years ago.

My dream hunt would be to have my dad back alive to experience a layout hunt with me.

Well I was born and raised in the East Bay. My first hunt was with my dad and a friend of his at Gray Lodge. I was 6 years old, and loved being the "bird dog". As I got older I hunted mainly with friends and Maurice(my hunting mentor). Maurice moved to Washington about 3 years ago, so since then I've been on my own. As I got older I continued hunting the refuges, and started hunting the Delta.

My favorite gun is my new AL391 Urika with the wetlands camo job.

Now I live in Chico, so I'm a lot closer to the duck huntin'.

My dream hunt is probably a week in Alberta for early Mallards, Honkers, and Specks.

Where are you from & where do you hunt waterfowl?
New to the forum....I'm Matt from LA (lower Arkansas) and generally hunt that area. Hunt mostly public land. Hunting here has really sucked the last few years, with this last season being the worst. I guess states to the north of us finally figured out they could accomadate to the ducks just like we've always done, and without at least a foot of snow, they don't need to leave.

Who taught you to hunt waterfowl and when?
My dad, friends, and mainly just watching ducks.

What is your favorite duck or goose to hunt?
Any question....

What is you favorite shotgun?
Browning A-5....Do they really make other guns?

What would be your dream waterfowl hunt?
For it to be like it used to be, here......in green timber, of course
